Financial Assistance System Redesign for Families in Need
Faculty Advisor: Sarah Bloomer
Sponsor: Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care
The Massachusetts state government has a critical Civic Technology initiative to improve the way constituents interact with them. High-quality childcare and out-of-school time programs help prepare children for school and life success. For many families, it's too expensive and hard to get help, and there are many existing barriers, including out-of-date tools, challenges finding available childcare providers, and easily paying providers for the care provided, that limit access. The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) is continuously working to update these tools and reduce barriers to enable families to easily get financial and practical support for childcare, with the goal of helping disrupt the cycle of poverty. The SCOPE team is working with the EEC through a user-oriented collaborative design process to improve on the current family user experience of the Childcare Financial Assistance (CCFA) process, making it faster and easier for families to get assistance.
